Nia Long: Actress Responds to J. Cole’s Lyric About Her in ‘No Role Modelz’

Nia Long got love for hip-hop. Hip-hop definitely has love for Nia Long.

The actress discussed the connection she has with the culture with Larry King recently. Basically, she says her and hip-hop music “grew up together.”

“So I grew up at a time where Puffy Combs was running nightclubs in New York City, and Boyz in the Hood was out, and Heavy D–my beloved brother who I miss madly – you had Biggie Smalls, you had Tupac, and there was Boyz in the Hood,” Long says. “So this was an era where we were all growing up in this business, and kind of changed the game a little bit, and gave urban music, Black music and Black films a space to actually do our thing. And I think that the rappers just kind of…were feeling Nia Long a little bit. I don’t know. I don’t know. I think it’s just part of the acknowledgement.”

King then asked her about that lyric in J. Cole’s song “No Role Modelz,” where the North Carolina rapper says: “My only regret was too young for Nia Long.”

“He’s really not too young,” Long replies. “He just doesn’t know it.”
